My Take:

Still, the series excels in its strong character development and romantic chemistry between the lead characters. The story centers around a school council president, Ayuzawa Misaki, who is known to be strict and intimidating but secretly works part-time as a maid to support her family. The male lead, Usui Takumi, is a popular and carefree student who discovers her secret and makes it his goal to uncover more of her past while also starting to develop feelings for her.

The characters are unrealistic in their personalities, but it’s what makes them fun to watch. Hachiman is cynical and a lone wolf; he refuses to receive help and always self-sacrifices for others. With the force of his teacher  Hachiman joins the Volunteer Service Club.  Yukino, the first club member of the service club, has a brutal cold personality, is talented in every aspect, and always wants to surpass his older sister. She hurts people around her with her honest words and always hides her soft side.

And our final member, Yui, brings colors and humor to the club with her cheerful, friendly, and kind attitude. She conceals her sorrow behind an attractive smile.

Beacuse of these well-written characters and the fantastic script I loved both seasons and this season is no different. We don’t see many adventures like the previous one; here, it revolves around graduation prom. Yukino wants to succeed in the prom event as a committee member without depending on Hachiman or Yui. And also, the three have to face their biggest enemy -love. Where it gets too complicated, they struggle to express their love.

Miyamura to Hori: I don’t want anyone else to see this side of you either; it feels as if these moments are mine and mine alone.

After intense, action-packed anime “Attack on Titan,” I want something lighthearted, heartwarming romance to watch. “Horimiya” exactly delivered what I needed, what I am looking for. Indeed, this is the best romcom of 2021. The title Horimiya comes from the first syllables of Hori and Miyamura, two high school students aged eighteen. Kyoko Hori is an attractive, cheerful, popular high school girl, a perfect combination of beauty and brains. While Izumi Miyamura, the class loner, distanced himself from his classmates because of his past. The two opposite personalities come together by a secret when Miyamura escorts Hori’s younger brother, Sota, to home. Hori discovers Miyamura’s friendly and kind-hearted side, also piercings and tattoos on his body. Miyamura sees Hori’s planar, family-oriented, angrier version. They agree to keep their true identities secret from their classmates.

”Horimiya” is a cheerful, heartwarming, wholesome rom-com series. The simple yet treasured moments, watching movies together, awkward love moments, little conflicts, subtle humor, getting jealous and furious for little things are adorable, honest, feels real and relatable. With artistic cherry blossom animation, Horimiya might be the best romcom of 2021.
